Competition Obedience

Rally, Novice, Open, and Utility Obedience Classes

Why not continue your education and put your companion to the true test? Enter the exciting world of competition obedience.

These classes are focused on perfecting the union between handler and dog. You will be learning from some of the best competition trainers in the Southeast.

In these classes, you will learn the rules of AKC and UKC competitions.

  • Rally : Rally is an exciting new sport offered by the American Kennel Club. Rally provides a link from the Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) program to obedience or agility competition, both for dogs and handlers. In addition, rally promotes fun and enjoyment for dogs at all levels of competition.

  • Novice: On and Off leash heeling, Stand for Examination, Figure 8, Recall, Fronts and Finishes, Sit Stay and Down Stay.

  • Open:  Drop on Recall, Retrieve on the Flat, Retrieve over High Jump, Broad Jump, Out of Sight Sits and Stays. Open class exercises are all off lead.

  • Utility: Hand Signals, Scent Discrimination, Moving Stand, Directed Jumping, Directed Retrieve.

Introduction to Open and Utility

Build the skills needed to compete successfully in open and utility. Some exercises will be taught, but most of the emphasis will be on skills, or “pieces” of the exercises. Retrieving is a bonus, but not absolutely necessary. Some retrieving skills will be discussed, but the retrieve is not going to be taught in this class. You will need a dumbbell and scent articles if your dog is retrieving. Go outs, attention, pivots, keeping focus, jumping skills, signals, and light proofing. There will be minimal emphasis on heeling. Dogs must have a reliable recall and be under control off lead to participate.

Cost for these classes is $85.00
