Introduction to Open and
Utility
Build the skills needed to compete successfully in open and
utility. Some exercises will be taught, but most of the emphasis will be
on skills, or “pieces” of the exercises. Retrieving is a bonus, but not
absolutely necessary. Some retrieving skills will be discussed, but the
retrieve is not going to be taught in this class. You will need a dumbbell
and scent articles if your dog is retrieving. Go outs, attention, pivots,
keeping focus, jumping skills, signals, and light proofing. There will be
minimal emphasis on heeling. Dogs must have a reliable recall and be under
control off lead to participate.
